Leaking Chimney Stack
We were asked if we could have a look at a chimney stack that was leaking and we found that the lead flashing that had been renewed at the time the property underwent a complete re-roof about ten years ago had been fitted incorrectly.
The flashing had been fitted with two connecting flashings to the side instead of a seamless piece at the front and rear corners. The lead had not been dressed around the corner in the proper manner and this allowed water ingress around the base of the chimney which, in turn, caused the felt under the roof tiles to fail and allow water to leak into the property.
The property was not covered by an adequate guarantee and the home holder had to bear the additional cost of our company rectifying someone else’s mistake.
